2020 Canterbury Home Show Press Release

2020 Canterbury Home Show attendance up 50%!

Throughout the unprecedented challenges of 2020, it’s great to be able to share a good news story that is a beacon of hope for the Australasian exhibition industry.  On the weekend of the federal election, Exhibitions and Events New Zealand held its first public exhibition since COVID first hit New Zealand – the Canterbury Home Show.

Celebrating its 41st year, the three day event attracted 12,670 home enthusiasts, an incredible increase of 50% attendance on the 2019 Show.

On an already eventful weekend, with election day on the Saturday and the Bledisloe Cup & Bathurst on the Sunday, the Canterbury Home Show was a much needed lifeline for the 140+ businesses who exhibited.

General Manager, Exhibitions & Events NZ, Amanda Magnus said that there was a strong indication in the lead up to the event that we would have a great attendance.

The huge turnout confirmed that events are still alive, kicking and cannot be replaced with virtual alternatives.  We were thrilled with such a positive outcome from the community and all involved.”

Home is where the heart is and the nation has certainly spent a lot of extra time in their homes this year.

This extra time has made them more house proud than ever. And with international travel off the cards for much of the year, it’s great to see consumers investing in their properties.

For the first time this year, the Canterbury Home Show welcomed TSB as presenting partner. Magnus says that as an independent bank with 100% New Zealand ownership, TSB is the perfect fit for the Canterbury Home Show, more so now than ever.

The Canterbury Home Show was held Friday 16 – Sunday 18 October 2020 at the Christchurch Arena, Addington, Christchurch.

Exhibitions and Events NZs’ next event is the momentous Auckland Home Show, to be held 24 – 28 February 2021 after a postponement from the usual September 2020 event dates.

And much like the Canterbury Home Show, with an unprecedented drought on these important events over 2020, all signs lead to another great Show with strong attendance.
